Xavi Hernández Career Assists

Currently the world's best playmaker (and arguably one of the greatest ever), Xavi Hernández has led both club and country to unprecedented levels of success. In the space of just 2 years, he has managed to conquer every single major trophy on offer: World Cup, European Championship, Champions League, Primera Division and Copa del Rey, in addition to several other domestic, continental and intercontinental titles.

Under the management of Pep Guardiola, Xavi has been given far greater freedom of the midfield and without the presence of Deco and Ronaldinho he has flourished. Not only a fantastic technician and ball hoarder, he also possesses a deadly killer ball and over the course of his career has directly set up over 150 goals for club and country.

Xavi Hernandez 2009/2010: World's Best Playmaker

As you may have gathered by now, I'm a HUGE fan of Xavi. No other player can match his blend of vision, accuracy and intelligence.

As outlined in my previous blog post, Xavi has played a part in 42 of Barcelona's goals this season. According to OPTA statistics, he is the leading creator of chances in La Liga (109) and in the Champions League (37).

He is the greatest playmaker of the last 20 years!

Another fantastic season for the world's best playmaker, with 16 assists to date and many more goals created from deep. Not quite at the same level as his last season (29 direct assists!) but when you set the bar so high it's difficult to replicate.

Since Euro 2008 he has been unquestionably the world's leading playmaker, and he is fast-becoming one of the greatest midfield generals of all time. Unparalleled in his passing game + decision-making, he is a striker's dream.

A superb season for Xavi, scoring 10 goals + providing an incredible 29 assists to help Barca win the treble for the first time in their history.

Statistically the most creative player in Europe, creating 129 goal-scoring chances in the league and 41 in the Champions League (OPTA stats).
