I think including the key pass column is absolutely genious. Players who are able to set up other players for goals are amazing to watch, but it is players who consistently set up other players for assists that strikes me as truly amazing.
Of course, these people depend on the assisters, but just look at how Liverpool fell to pieces after Alonso left and the people who used to get them assists didn't recieve the ball like they used to.

And just as a sidenote, I find Rosicky's stats this year just simply amazing... How on earth did he manage that?

For me, I don't really place much emphasis on who scores the goal or who provides it or who starts it etc. Unless it's a solo or set piece goal, most goals usually consist of several penetrating passes and all players involved deserve credit for providing creativity and adding attacking momentum. One of the things that annoys me about the British sports press is the over-praising of goalscorers, as if the guy who puts the ball in the back of the net is the only one involved in the goal. Notice the hyping of Wayne Rooney last season after his poaching spree, with Antonio Valencia only getting a small amount of praise for his role in providing consistent quality service into the box (as did several other players).
Alonso is a fantastic player to have in a deeper position because his spreading of the play is 2nd to none. He does not have the killer pass of a Xavi or Guti but his diagonal balls out to the wings, quick passes in between the lines etc. are hit with great accuracy and pace. Lucas just isn't in the same league, that extra 2/3 touches he takes to get a good view of the field (and his inferior passing range) means that he can't work the ball as quickly into the front 4 as Alonso can. And the team has suffered as a result.

As for Rosicky, he's been great in the "key pass" department because he provides a high tempo, direct, one-touch style of play to this Arsenal side. That run in the 1st minute against Wolves which created Chamakh's opening goal for instance, or his brilliant outside-of-the-boot throughball to Sagna which led to Diaby's goal against Blackpool. That's the sort of thrust he provides (often in the opening stages of games where an early goal can help to draw the opposition out of their shells) and that's why he's created quite a few goals from deeper positions this season, without necessarily providing the final ball.

Briliant summary! Especially the one about Rosicky seems to me to be spot on. You really know how find the right words.
I think Ozil will go on to become a great player!
