What's your definition for "key pass"?

Key passes are any passes that I feel are creative and add momentum to an attack in which a goal is scored. For instance
-a tackle/interception leading to a counter-attack
-a throughball in between the centre back/fullback for a wide player to run onto and square across goal (like Xavi's throughball vs Malaga)
-a long pass out to the wing for a wide player to cross into the box
-a forward pass into the space between the opposition defence and midfield, which then sets up a simple throughball into the box (for instance Alonso's pass to Benzema which led to Pedro Leon's goal against Milan this season)
-an accurate set piece into the box which gets headed on for someone else to score
-an aerial ball into the box which gets knocked down for someone else to score (like Alonso's pass to set up Oezil's backheel/Benzema's goal vs Ajax this season)
etc etc
Alonso has such a brilliant passing range, and because his passes are hit with so much pace and accuracy, he has the ability to create many goals from deep.

It seems that if coaches manage to understand that the main key to stop Real Madrid is to stop Xabi Alonso, we'll have some problems...
Thanks for your amazing statistics on the site!
